Impact In DRC

About DRC:

Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is a country located in Central Africa.

s

750,000 children in the region are acutely malnourished.

64% Poverty rate.

In a country so vast with so little infrastructure, reaching vulnerable children can be a massive undertaking. Working with our partners at Mana Nutrition, Save the Children and Women of African we are equipping their capacity to respond swiftly and effectively to emergencies and get help to those who need it most.

According to the WFP, among children under five in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, 43 percent are chronically malnourished (stunted), and 23 percent are acutely malnourished (wasted), with rates of between 52 and 53 percent in North Kivu province.

The lack of proper infrastructure in the rural areas of the African province, North Kivu, make it close to impossible for malnourished children in those areas to receive the care they need. Because of this, mothers bring their children to clinics in Goma, the province’s capital for help.

Claude Sabwa, STC’s lead doctor in Goma, DRC, identifies that “40% of children 6 months-6 years old who have come to our health facilities have malnutrition.” It is these children who are now directly benefiting from your donated calories.

With the help of your RUTF donation, Save the Children and Women of Africa are currently being used to supply multiple health centers, along with an emergency health program across North Kivu, providing primary health care in response to population displacements with critical SAM treatment needs.

Together with our partners, we are coordinating with the Ministry of Health, local agencies, international NGOs, and UN agencies to maximize the impact on children’s lives.
